There's a falcon sitting on my windowsill here at work. I'm not normally in this early (I came in early so I could work on that Roman comic without distractions). I wonder if this perch is part of its regular routine.

It looks a little scruffy (must be molting season), but seems perfectly content as it swivels its head around (and waaay around) surveying the city from one of the highest possible perches. There's a thick haze over the streets below, so maybe it's waiting out the fog, or just waiting for a pigeon to dispose of.

Falcon heads pretty much turn all the way around. To stare at you.

Of course, the moment I started drawing its picture, it spread its wings and arced off the windowsill--but I'll scan and post a sketch or two this evening.

Last week we had a butterfly in the office. This building has a biosystem all its own....

A Falcon?

You had a falcon on your windowsill? That's nothing, there's a guy two streets over who had a Falcon up on blocks in his driveway for two years. I never saw it fly though... Oops, wait a minute, you mean the BIRD, not an old Ford. Sorrryyy. DRW.

Now I'm envisioning a Ford perched on the ledge with a cunning expression.

Alas, it was just a mundane ol' birdie this morning.

A place in Williamsburg, VA I used to work for had a Red Tailed Hawk show up on a regualr basis. They had a dead tree in back of the building and the hawk liked to sit there and rest about once a week. Sometimes he brought lunch... One of my coworkers used to talk about how the Hawk started attacking the reflection in the glass one day.

Oh, only a modest 70-something stories up.

Most days there's a fairly awesome view, but today river blends into sky and distant buildings have been sucked into the haze. The noise from street level, though, is remarkably loud.

For those keeping score, the tallest buildings in the area include: the Empire State Building (102 floors), the Chrysler Building (77), 40 Wall Street (70), and the stylishly neo-gothic Woolworth Building (57). All of these were the world's tallest building when they were completed. Myself, I rather fancy the idea of building the world's deepest building. I used to think about that a lot, back when I had recurring dreams about the end of the world and the 50-year nuclear-winter shelter I was going to construct....

Falcons are always cool. By definition. Was it really a peregrine? Wildlife observation opportunities -- I have to say I like this new job of yours. You come back to lj after an absence and you sound happy. I'll even forgive lack of Felix for a happy Klio and a falcon story.

BTW we may be coming your way this week. If we can execute Vacation Plan B. Depends on some pending job news (no job, no vacation) and hotel vacancies (ditto).

That's SO awesome. Birds of prey are super cool - if you ever want to learn about them, I recommend _The Life of Birds_ DVD set. :)

So you're back from ALA land, huh? And there are stories with pictures ready... where???
Concerned Flelixoholics want to know.... By the way, I spotted another Falcon in my neighborhood. Once again, it's the car not the predator, but it's a nice '63 model, just waiting to be restored... at which point it will be a RESTORED plain-vanilla, no-class car. Still waiting impatiently to hear from Felix. DRW.

what was the falcon's message?
