After announcing this, the mother/aunt/grandmother/? tried a couple of times to get him to agree ("Right? Right?"). The boy bounced along silently. He didn't look upset; but he was so, so quiet.
You know, the problem with developing the habit of keeping my eyes and ears open for interesting things to draw and new observations to record, is that I'm bound to overhear stuff like this.
Maybe so, but NYC is so angry with Republicans in general now (what with the whole "there are no national monuments in NYC" "the Empire State Building is just a tall office building," "the Brooklyn Bridge is just a bridge," "ports? what ports?" "send that anti-tarrrrrist money somewhere else!"); I'd be stacking up my Liberal Street Cred if I were a Republican trying to stay in office around here. At least, the general sentiment I hear (from non-Wall Street types) is, "Yeah, you're a Republican, but if you do a good job you do a good job--and WE'RE KEEPING AN EYE ON YOU." That, and "Turn my A/C back on, d@mmit!"
Hey, just because Con Ed couldn't figure out where to put the decimal point when counting people without power in Queens during a heat wave... Could've happened to anyone. Why the Mayor's Office would have NO reason to actually send someone OUT to Queens and see what was going on... I should stop mumbling before I actually say something which makes sense. By accident. (grin)
yay...i love people! *rolls eyes* what a great thing to say...good for her! oh, and she's smoking...i hope she didn't forget to blow the smoke in someone's face while spitting out such crap to her poor kid! a-hole!
The conversation caught my ear not just because I was standing right next to them waiting to cross the street, but because the boy sounded so bright and happy telling mother/aunt/grandmother what he must have thought was a great new development in his life. That, and he was wearing a lime green somekinda sports shirt (soccer, football, basketball, whaddoiknow if it isn't baseball). I'd like to think the kid has a good chance of having some other role models around if they live in NYC.
And, yeah, she did make sure to blow her smoke at people walking by. It's just about impossible to navigate the sidewalks of Manhattan these days without getting stuck in a crowd of smokers somewhere along the way.
carefully repressed? LOL! that's funny! i love it. no recruitment this year? darn! i was looking forward to the annual recruitment fair. i mean come on all that gayness and straightness in one room...it's just a gas.
The problem with the heterosexual recruitment fair was that they keep on having trouble finding someone to cater it... Wouldn't want to indulge in any stereotyping, after all. No... the real reason is that last year they declared Mission Accomplished, only to find out that it wasn't. NOW what do they do? (so sorry, I'm just in a wicked mood today)
