Uncle Caesar Wants YouThe inking on this one is not quite finished, but I've run out of time and will have to do a clean-up later tonight! Clean up completed :)

I know, the frightening power of bureaucracy always unnerves me, too.

Uhm. Or maybe that's not quite what you meant.

Would YOU want to be an accountant at a fish sauce factory? Not when you can join a Roman legion!

Even my current job sounds better than Felix's career prospects in Alexandria, when you put it that way. At least there's no eau de fish sauce in the air here.

Yeah, my brain is currently near mush (now that's a pleasant image) so all I can say is, yeah, what she said.

Merci.

Soon I'll get to draw two of my favourite things: Uniforms on Romans and bears. Not uniforms on bears. More likely bears as uniforms.

Not so good on drawing large-scale battle scenes, but I'll see what I can do. Not that I'm saying Felix is going to be in any large-scale battles. Of course not. He'll probably be assigned to repairing roads and digging sewer systems and suchlike, as troops in Egypt at this time were likely to spend their days doing. Gotta love the army life.

As to drawing large-scale battle scenes, you don't have to. Just stick to Felix's viewpoint. Roman soldiers had very good discipline in action. So he'll be taught to keep in line with the others in his... squad.. what's that, a maniple? Anyway, they'll stay shoulder to shoulder, all you need worry about is Felix and the guys on either side. If one of his buds goes down, he's expected to close up with the next over. There will be lots of poking, hitting and sweating. Ya know, those guys don't wear pants in battle, just those little leather skirts. Could offer a chance to show off some cheeky male anatomy. DRW.

Ah, yes indeed you are right, unless they are caught in some sort of ambush by Zealots in a poorly planned retreat through a very narrow pass somewhere in Judaea, they would certainly close ranks with efficient Roman discipline and absolute order would be maintained, and doubtless order would be maintained even then; and how likely is it that they would be caught in some narrow pass in... Anyway. This probably won't happen. Felix is too lucky for his artist to manipulate him into that pass. But I was thinking about it, just so as you know.

But, yes, keeping the viewpoint very tight will help. Poke, hit, sweat. I hope I can draw sweat. Let me know in about 3 strips whether I succeeded.

Legion > cohort > maniple > century, then... uhm... tent group, I believe.

I like the little skirts. More men should walk around in Roman skirts, I always say.

I've reached a weird impasse today. Timejump or slower character development? Angst or action? Oh, the woe of having too many ideas! Maybe I'll skip ahead to the big excitement, and fill in the gap later for the super-de-special print edition of chapter 2 :D

I'll vote for male nudity, if you need help breaking a tie. ;-)

BTW, are your ears burning (in a good way)? Check the latest entry on my lj, and the first comment.

Er, uhm, ::blush:: Why, I never indulge in displays of male nudery! Er, Felix just has a really short tunic, I am not responsible for accidental skirt flapping! And, er... I have really big ears, I should wear my beret over them next time.

Yay for skirt flapping!

Big ears? I didn't think so. I thought the hair tucked behind the ear was very gamine.

From: [identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com
Yay, I can still pull off gamine. If I keep tucking my hair, do you think I could pass for 17 or 19 so's I can get a six-figure YA book contract or get hired to do a graphic novel?

(Bitter? Moi?)

Nah, you're too honest. You'd insist on actually writing your own book. (Meow!)

Sorry to bother you here.........

I sent you an invoice for the roller bottles two days ago - I wondered if you were still interested in these - if not could you please let me know? I can give your spot to someone else. Thanks!

Oh, thank you for bothering me here! I am still interested. I'll check my mail.

I appreciate you tracking me down :)

Oh, say--lemme double check on this. I'd thought you'd sold them all before I posted, so I didn't have a spot? Yipes. Anyway, I'll check my e-mail and the original sales post to remind myself what I ordered :P Thank you! Sorry I misunderstood on this.

We ended up having enough for a fourth case. So you are able to get them. You ordered 20 and I send the invoice to the klio.net addy :)

I've missed doing them! When I started having dreams about Alexandria, I knew my muse was at the end of her patience with my hiatus.

Love the icon. Adorable, yet tough. The boots really make it :)

The icon is a product of Kingdom of Loathing (http://www.kingdomofloathing.com), a terribly clever - and highly addictive - free stick figure RPG. It's free, but if you donate you can get different nifty things in the game, and one of the things you can buy is the chance to design an avatar (basically you just choose the elements that will go into it) that will then be drawn for you by the game's artist/creator.

If you enjoy RPGs at all, you should give it a look. It's fun fun stuff.

Seeing as I'm addicted to The Order of the Stick webcomic (http://giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript), that sounds like my sorta RPG :D

I love OotS, too. Haley is my favoritest. And yeah, KoL is pretty darned amusing. There are lots of really funny cultural references thrown about. You can tell the creator is a huge fan of They Might Be Giants, as there are all sorts of random references to their songs.

Wow, I dunno if I will ever play that game, but the descriptions crack me up. My favourite so far is "The Dirt-Walled Hovel of The Pretentious Artist." The "Crackpot Mystic's Shed" is pretty darned loco, too.
