I will keep plugging away at things. The end of the year draws nigh, and I'm a January birthday, so the approach of November always fills me with particularly acute "another year of my life heading right down the toilet" gloom. You won't want to be anywhere near me in December.
Something positive better start happening soon, I tell you. I'm not using up all this ink and paper for nothing.
Remember as soon as you get back two things are happening:
1. I'm buying you that small sketchpad so you can start to make minis
2. We're going to set specific deadlines for you to get an art portfolio together
I don't have a SMIDGE of a doubt that you can't make a living creatively and I promise you that you won't be stuck at that desk down the hall too much longer.
Waittaminnit, aren't you, like, ill and immobilised at home? Everyone knows reading lj saps your strength! I kinda hope you're really off working on a BIG MOMMA-JOMMA comic instead of huddling with a cup of tea and a box of tissues and a hot-water bottle, but if the latter, May you feel well again too late to go to work tomorrow and just in time for the weekend.
I'll be on the road by the end of the weekend, if my first rib under the collarbone on the left stops hurting so much. Grr. Doesn't stop me from drawing, though :-)
....Even though there are much better magaritas to be had there...we want you back here. And ditto Colleen on the art portfolio. My part will be making you send it out to agents. Yes, you heard me. Real, live art agents. (Hey, if you can stare down Texas cockroaches, what's to be afraid of with agents?) Anyway, agents. Who will get you jobs. Which will pay you money. So you can quit. And write the great American Comic.
"Chin up," as my Mother always says. "This too shall pass," as my Father always says. I haven't figured out yet what it is that I should always say, but it is likely to be far less inspirational, and much more oriented toward pancakes. Or margaritas. Or both. :)
I kinda like "Pancakes and margaritas!" as an inspirational saying. Although I suppose it should have a verb or two, to be truly profound.
I'm afraid of agents. They judge you, find you lacking, schmooze with the powerful, then take fifteen per cent of your soul. Off the top, I hear. Brrr.
Of course, it'll take months and months and months for me to scrape out bits of time for working on anything portfolio-worthy anyway, so *gloomNovembergloom*
Do you happen to drive by Kentucky on your way back? I'm thinking no, but I should have my place in Louisville if I don't manage to get myself fired today. (I have a small war going on with the project manager and his boss at the moment- Aunt Kat-chan is actually going to give notice today she's so fed up with these people.)
So Shadow and I should be in our nice HUGE one bedroom (it's like 1000 sqaure feet) apartment in Louisville the first of next week. I'm planning on moving Al-chan down with me next weekend too. :-0
Wow, that is nicely large. What about school, though? Will Alex go to school down there?
I'm sorry about the work-war, though. But, just think of all the tasty money they are paying you. That could be good motivation to muddle through, yes? No?
(Since I get paid squat plus a peanut, I have no motivation at work :-P )
I'm not sure what in the WORLD I am doing re: travel plans. I am in a complete PANIC at the moment.
hey! i finally got to a working computer, thank god. you must call me! 513-284-1019. when are you heading back? did you get my last email? if you can't call, email wife.of.viggo@gmail.com
