I've had that "getting a cow down a flight of stairs" on the "put this in a story about Herculaneum" backburner for so long, I honestly can't remember whether I read it as an anecdote about ancient Rome, or incorporated it from an anecdoate about some other time and place, or have been carrying it around since hearing stories about Ag students at the university. Another possibility: I am just plain demented.
I can't figure out a route from NY directly to Austin through Nacogdoches (I need to get the actual map out of the car, not rely on Mapquest), but maybe I can make a stop at the condo, do a few things, then keep driving from there for a quick-ish visit. I hear you have a guest room. With a television.
I'm going to try to get all the way to the Nashville area in one day's driving, but wherever I end up I'll make sure I get a hotel with wifi so I can check in :-)
There's this one hotel I've stayed a few times that's in a big outdoor mall with a multiplex cinema, and... No, must resist the allure of the multiplex, or I will never get to TX.
Okay it's official I am addicted to Lost. I'm up to episode 10 today...which is you do the math means I've been watching it since 8 in the morning straight!
I'm really jumpy now. Everytime I hear someone in my backyard I jump so high I almost hit the ceiling. Man I'm going to have a hard time falling asleep tonight AND getting on that plan in exactly one month...hmmm how far is it a walk to Kansas City?
Hope you're having a lovely ride. Make sure to sing really loudly for me!

Date: 2005-10-15 06:39 pm (UTC)Did they find a cow on the arch in Herculaneum (my ignorance is showing) or was that simply a wonderful bit of surrealism?
LOVED the ending.
Will you be coming through Nacogdoches?! ::hopefulhopeful::
