I fudged a bit on the 10,000 Drawings countdown and counted this as single drawing.

The rules are very arbitrary.

Quinmilia: Pillows and poppy seeds. Or: Long time, no see.

Yaaay, grats on hitting 5k! I've long been interested in doing that sort of project, but I think in the last decade I probably haven't done more than 2-3k drawings myself. Depends on how you count comic pages.

Grats all the same! :D

2-3k is a start! And there were times when I really sped up. Currently I'm on a roll, and I'm going to set a goal to draw the next 5000 in...hmm, not sure...but it'll be "less than 10 years."

And you could count each panel as a drawing :D

Well, if you counted panels I could tack on another thousand or two. I've been redrawing a comic I drew back in 2001, and just those few thousand drawings have made a definite difference.
And, I can tell 5k has made a difference for you, too! :D

Have hastily drawn celebratory chibi vampires.

Oh, definitely count all the panels, then :D Seriously, though, each and every drawing teaches us something new about art and storytelling, so I say that's perfectly legitimate!

I've been threatening to redraw Chapter I. I might limit myself to some panels here and there that have been bothering me since 2006 :P

Yay, celebratory chibi vampires are adorable! Unless they don't like being called adorable, in which case they are quite vampirically dignified. But also adorable :D

MUS! Oh, thank heavens. And Chapter V! I was afraid Last Days was, you know, *last* days.

Also, that dang prophecy is freaking me out. Clearly, if Justa had not followed Felix she would have kept her wealth for all time, by being buried with it. But it said if she *did* follow him, she would "lose everything." WHAT EVERYTHING? DOES THAT MEAN MUS TOO?

Strange old ladies living in abandoned villages on mountainsides are seldom wrong.

Last days of Herculaneum... Last days of the lives they have heretofore known... But not, you know, *last* last days :)

Congratulations on reaching this milestone, and with such a great strip too!

It's been a huge, satisfying pleasure to watch your skill and the story develop. I know it has to end, but I'll be sad when it does. Wonderful characters, great plotting, lovely art, well-observed humanity.

Thank you!

And thank you!

My promise to everyone is that chapter V moves swiftly from beginning to end. ::knock on wood, cross all the fingers:: I might be working on something else simultaneously (not even set in the ancient world, maybe), but promise to keep everything on a regular schedule. ::sign against evil eye, hang naughty Roman good luck charms around the room::

Yay!!

Also: What font are you using?

In the comic (except for occasional corrections) the same old hand lettering; in the "CHAPTER IV," etc. lines, Hoefler Text and 90% height.

Yay!!

And more congratulations! I've been looking at the beginning of the story recently, and it's wonderful to see how your drawing skills have developed. You do so much with just a few lines.

One thing I don't think I've mentioned for a while is that when I started doing the 10kd countdown, I was starting drawing over again from scratch after having pretty bad arm injuries (pinched nerves, crazy pain, etc.), and wasn't feeling very positive about going back to drawing and painting.

When PT coverage ran out (veeeery quickly--once I could move my arms without weeping, that was judged good ebough and it wasn't covered anymore) I did my own PT with fencing (SCA style, so with heavier weapons than Olympic style, using both hands, etc.) with an amazing fencing master and many terrific friends. But drawing was still a challenge. Then Donna Barr (awesome comic creator) gave me a mental jolt out of the sulks by mentioning the 10,000 drawings concept. I hadn't heard of that before.

So that's the whole story... Some of the whole story...

Also, I wasn't taking the comic very seriously at first :) It did start with a bear on top on an arch, after all :D

Or maybe I have mentioned that recently.

Ah well.

Same old story :)

I was trying to find some pre-10kd art, but the scanned stuff I see around the hard drive is all ElfQuest fan art :D

Pretty much everything I have hidden away from "pre-10K" is Elfquest fan art...

I love that stuff. :D

And now I shall complete the next 5000 by the end of the year!

No, no I won't. But maybe in a couple of years? :)

Two and a half years? Yes. Yes, that's a good goal.

(I have to be careful or you're liable to throw something insane at me to do.)

Writing 500 words for every drawing until you reach 2-1/2million words in two and a half years? >:D

C'mon, you know you can do it....

::snerk::

I probably could. Each panel is a drawing, right?

Congrats on reaching MMMMM ! (or |ƆƆ according to some)

*throws confetti*

Oh, poor Mus... Does he know about Menander ? On the bright side, I'd rather have him in the hands of Titus than Domitian.

Date: 2015-06-27 09:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com
My answer is: Mus does not know about Menander. Or if anyone tried to tell him that neither Menander nor his family are on any lists of survivors, he was not clear-headed enough to understand.

I like |ƆƆ. But it does look very odd.

MUSSSSSSS!!!!! Or should that be MUUUUUUUUUS!!!!

At any rate, I am breathless with excitement to see him. And how AWESOME that he made his appearance exactly on cue in #5000!!
