Date: 2011-02-28 08:51 pm (UTC)Oh, I so love your interiors! When I'm going to be beautiful and famous and rich (or at least rich) I'm going to ask you to draw my decoration plans for a Roman villa. =)

Date: 2011-03-01 07:03 am (UTC)Anyway, the horse looks great! It doesn't seem like he's talking, to me. He looks more like he's uneasy with the smells around the place. Hey, I'm an expert on this since I've seen several episodes of mister Ed and read many of the adventures in which Jolly Jumper is involved

Date: 2011-03-06 05:22 am (UTC)Currently listening to Siouxsie & the Banshees 'Cities In Dust', which was my favorite Siouxsie song for TWENTY YEARS before I realized what it's about.
Re: Naggy questions again
Date: 2011-03-16 12:40 pm (UTC)I used to listen to Siouxsie & the Banshees (had a friend who was a fan) but I don't know if I ever heard that song. Unless I did and it subliminally altered my brain :) Clearly my problem these days is that I'm not listening to enough music. Actually, that could be true. I haven't listened to music during my commute since my fancy-pants phone was stolen. Hmm. I retired the old iPod when I got the phone and I actually don't know where it is (!!). I'll start the search tonight. I hope it'll still work :P
So, anyway, Petronia!
You can find some commentary on Petronia from Ernest Metzger here: web page (http://iuscivile.com/materials/reprints/metzger-3.htm#titre4) / PDF version (http://iuscivile.com/materials/reprints/metzger-3.pdf) (particularly the section "The Lawsuit"). Other people like Beryl Rawson and Jane Gardner discuss her in books on women in Rome, and there's a book called The Roman Household by Gardner & Wiedemann that has some of the lawsuit documents in translation; but Metzger just lays out the facts (and he is more interested in the technicalities of Roman law, so the article gets a bit dry).
If you're looking for information, I recommend staying away from any fictional accounts of her... er... except SPQR Blues!!! :) Because, well, stories all just put her in as a character and run, and depending on the author's imagination, some stories run veeeery far :)
