skyscraperThere's more to come today (Saturday), so more will be going on than a bunch of people lolling around. No, wait, actually, there is more lolling to come...

I BROUGHT THE BOOZE!

Menander looks so lonely.

He brought the booze and the snacks

More than booze and snacks will be needed to comfort poor Menander =(
Though Felix's reaction would possibly be "You're asleep? Great! More booze for me =D"

Menander's hogging the bed and the blanket, so Felix will hog the booze and the Hot Pockets or whatever other snacks he's brought. Now all he needs is the Super Bowl on the television and the evening won't be so bad. He'll also need a television, of course.

Query - do you only do "SPQR Blues"? or do you do other artwork for commision? I am not asking for myself, but if you do commission stuff, or even are willing to insert the likeness of a bit player in the comic for a commission, you could mention it on [livejournal.com profile] cyberfund_creat. It might be a way for you to get some extra money.

I hadn't really thought much about commissions, but I think walk-on roles could be fun (or gruesome, if one is applying for a bit part in a volcano-related crowd scene :P ).

I'll take a look at [livejournal.com profile] cyberfund_creat. I was just wailing about my lack of money this morning, coincidentally. Or, maybe not such a coincidence, since I'm sure a lot of people are wailing about lack of money these days...

Since I have no marketable talents, I like to give information about things like [livejournal.com profile] cyberfund_creat to those who do have marketable talents. It makes me feel somewhat useful and maybe helps everyone else.

I really think a lot of people would be tickled to have their likeness 'immortalized' in a crowd scene no matter what the setting. Bill Holbrook seems to do okay when he offers 'guest spots' in Herdthinners, Inc from time to time.

Awwwww. Poor Menander.

...poor pampered, spoiled Menander! How does a slave get to be such a whiner? *)

Mus is going to have to look into applying more discipline to his slave, I tell you, what with the insolent remarks and the griping about delicate feet. I'm sure the master will see to it the moment Menander gets back to Herculaneum ;)

He's lucky Felix is a good sport and didn't tip him out of the bed onto the floor and/or send him back downstairs for another mess of pottage :)

I suspect Felix knows exactly why Meander needed to be out of town for a while.

Indeed. Menander would be a terrible spy, talking half-asleep like that. Good thing Felix is trustworthy (well, and Mus is family after all, or soon to be).

I though Mus's real name is more jewish than greek.

ImageAs it turns out, he has two given names--Ioudas Alexander--plus the nickname "Mus."

People might take Greek second names or simply have names that could pass for Greek (Esther/Aster) to, well, pass in the larger society.

Ioudas/Judas was a very common name in Alexandria at the time.

Baby Mus + young Felix = FTW! Both of them are so damn cute n.n
I want to see how Vibius cures hangovers with a bear, btw. =O Does it involve wrestling? *curious*

PS: Sorry for the double post u.u' Even copy+paste from wordpad is a complicated thing for me at 1 am these days.

Don't his sisters call him "Dawi"? Or am I totally confused?

Also, that young-Felix-baby-Mus panel will never get old. "Cats should eat them"... bwahahaha!

How do you say "gross" in Latin?

Ah, yes--he does have that second nickname. And no doubt at least another one from Menander by now. He seems to collect names, doesn't he.

"Dawi", that nickname had me fooled. I though his name was more like David (which is a jewish name).

Date: 2009-02-22 04:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com
I'm very partial to the name David, and that would likely have ended up being his name. But it wasn't particularly common in the time and place where he was born--perhaps not even used at all, in fact. That tidbit came up somewhere as evidence against a bit of graffiti in Herculaneum being the name "David." I didn't see the name coming up in the other epigraphical evidence, tomb inscriptions, legal documents, etc.

Which also explains why it took so long for anyone to mention his name. I was still looking for Davids :)

"Dawi" could conceivably be a younger sibling's attempt to say "Alexander." My youngest cousin called her older brother "Chach" for "Jeffrey," which makes much less sense.

just lovely

I'm really enjoying this plot line. Every comic you post lately, I want to tell you how delightful it is, but chicken out. The architectural details and the way you have been changing the panel sizes are amazing. Also, I'm getting so attached to these characters that that volcano is making me nervous. I wonder what Felix is going to get up to after consuming that sizable jug?

Hangover + hanging out with Vibius will certainly be entertaining. All we need now is a bear and we're done =D

In which order?...Although after enough booze I don't think it matters anymore. X)

(And yes, I was partying last night. All of the last night. Some images seem to be rising constantly to my mind... luckily, no bears. I think. X( )

I missed two partying opportunities (Friday and Saturday), to sit on the couch with the cat and the cold medicine. I am officially a boring old fuddy duddy. At least I can have booze again once I'm off the meds, though it'd probably be bad form to start on cocktails at work on Monday afternoon.

A party with no bears? Such a fuddy duddy! :)
