Long time no update. Preparing for NY Comic Con has really worn me out. I'll be on an insane schedule from now through Sunday. Can I post another comic while putting in convention hours? We'll find out :P
In this installment: a new fashionable hairdo for Seianti, an old-fashioned outfit for Iusta.
Booth 1831, with my company, Graphic Universe (I hope I have that number right, as it's what I've been telling everybody). I pretty much look like my icon, with random nonsense floating around next to my ear. Come say hi, and get an SPQR Blues pin :) (Nothing fancy--they just say "SPQR Blues." I'll try to be more creative when I actually have a table of my own at some future con this year.)
Some day, some day! I was overwhelmed by all the vendors and options the last time I looked into making custom phone charms.
But right now, my big project is de-stressing before starting in on any new cool projects. I know, odd time to do it, during a massive convention when I'll be on my feet and sleepless for three days and smiling and doing the marketing-and-sales dance and trying to be eight different people at once. But if I don't take it easy, something bad is going to happen. Well, badder than the normal. Anyway, I need to slow down, no matter what's on my professional plate.
And I need to draw more Romans. Always, I need to draw more Romans. They are very relaxing.
Bah! We can fix this, after you get back. You artsy types need everything to be visual, so I'll just do the research again and arrange it all pretty for you. Then I, along with a few other people we know, will force you (or perhaps bribe you with homemade baked goods or LUSH items) to make some decisions, and then we'll do the rest so you can have some pretties to sell at the next con.
I hope you're having a good time in NYC in spite of the frigid weather. I'm looking forward to meeting you! I will be wearing a pink shirt and will be more-or-less looking like this: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1446968133 -- except I will look a lot more crazy.
If you'd like to stay in the booth for a while and talk with visitors about the series, I would be very happy to have you there. We will have muffins and brownies and will make you very comfortable. And I hope you'll be able to stay for the 7:15pm panel about European Comics :)
I love Seianti's new 'do, and you're the only artist who's drawn a stola so that I actually see what all the fuss was about. There's no way Iusta could look any more modest, unless she dressed like a Vestal.
"Not even with that boy?" ::chuckles:: I take it Mus definitely did not, um, close his eyes and think of Menander--unless he did so before he fell asleep.
I did extra stola-studying :) According to which, the stola was starting to waver in and out of fashion around this time, even for respectable wealthy women. Maybe because it covered up one's fashionable layered silks and gold-threaded garments. How dull!
There will be another tonight, once I'm done with Comic Con stuff.
I need to relax and spend time enjoying something fun (Romans! Murderous volcanoes!). I've let the excessive demands of my job make me sloppy at work and neglect the Romans-and-murderous-volcanoes. Today I've realised it isn't worth it. I'm unhappy, the company is mad, nobody wins.
Technically he never wore a real one, only pretended to, so he ought to pretend to have stopped wearing it. I think I'll bring that up in the next installment.
However, he's still in that legal odd area where some laws consider him too young to be trusted with his own affairs or slaves (even when those are one and the same, ha ha, I am so funny). Much like a guy under 25 trying to rent a car.
::coff::ahem::coff:: Mus? With Iusta and Seianti? Er... are you sure that's not Felix who you're thinking of? Good thing he has such excellent grip on his own sanity :)
I like the very realistic (i.e. not even approaching perfect or simple) way you portray these people's relationships. While I am kinda holding out for Felix to end up with Iusta---their personalities seem very suited for one another, to me---I really enjoy the tangle.
I also like the way you draw Mus' face. He seems simultaneously ambivalent and uncertain about everything.
I've been reading since day 1 of this strip, and I've just recently made my own foray into the world of Historical Fiction set in the Ancient Roman High Empire. So , if you're interested, consider giving the first little bit a read and review, right here: http://www.fictionpress.com/s/2632874/1/Attalus
Obviously, it needs a lot of work, but I'd love to get feedback from some people who love Roman things as much as myself.

I love the dress too. Somehow I can't see Justa keeping to it though.
I'll hope for more comics, but know you are very very bizzy.
Much love.

Good luck at the con!!
