Well, Mus has had a pretty comfy life... he didn't really have to develop a lot of street smarts beyond the nicely paved streets of Herculaneum. But he's probably a genius at the fish-pickle business, dealing with deadbeat clients, and negotiating a good price for pretty slaves.
I'd say it's pretty hot in panel 3... and panel 4... and panel 2... :D
Agreed!!!!
Hey, and maybe if Mus explains the whole bakeshop thing to Justa, then that means Klio will be explaining it us! 'Cause I was just wondering about it again the other day.
Oh, you know, guys one year in their teens just up and get a growth spurt and suddenly go from skinny little twig to adult male. Yeah, something like that. Or very late teens, in Mus's case. Though Felix maybe never had the skinny little twig stage, what with building muscles from climbing columns and chasing twiggy little cousins.
It's probably useful to know that I am a huge fan of those old cast-of-thousands movies. Silent era, black & white, Cinemascope Technicolor, anything before it all goes wonky in the mid-1960s. Special bonus if the cast of thousands includes Merle Oberon, Charles Laughton, Fredric March, or Richard Burton glowering and showing off his knees. (I had a schoolteacher who used to call me CBafter Cecil B. DeMille, as in, "ready when you are, CB," as the old anecdote goes. Little did my teacher know it would all end up with the Blues.) But, I digress...
Charles Laughton might have recommended "don't ask, don't tell." The people in the bakeshop, on the other handmaybe Mus should ask them. I was debating whether or not he would seek advice from those friends, but the scene got lost in a hiatus. I could introduce a Joe the Baker character.... (sorry, local joke; also, poor Joe the Baker, introduced into the story right before a volcano wipes out his livelihood)
We could have our own SPQR Blues election on November 4th: Titus vs. Domitian. With surprise candidate That Guy Who Turned Up Claiming He's Nero* running on the Libertarian Party ticket, and Pliny the Elder reperesenting the Green Party.
(I'm afraid can't say the word "Libertarian Party" anymore without getting an image in my mind of Stephen Colbert discussing Bob Barr....)
*This really happened, I think during Titus' rule. The guy turning up, not him running as a Libertarian.
I was so traumatised by the scene with the old king eating a mushroom and turning a funny colour and shrivelling up, that I never did have a chance to celebrate Babar's ascension to the crown properly. But now I think Babar represents the change we need. Isn't it time to put a an actual elephant in the White House?
I need to have that on a pin. Or a t-shirt. Or maybe on a yard sign. Yep, I'm thinking yard sign. In my office (which I suppose would make it a carpet sign, but still).
