Now he only has two secrets leftOne problem with saving a panel for last is that your hand might get tired and hurty before you get to it. But I'd like to have a Saturday update, so I'm calling this finished anyway.

Unfortunately, you can't download the Dan Savage advice column podcast in the ancient world

SPQR Blues has finally built back up its number of unique daily visitors to around where it was before the ComicGenesis servers took an extended nosedive. Just in time to irritate people again, because I kinda worry someone's going to say: Why does everybody fall for Felix? People don't, really. Lolla's old auntie didn't like him. Domitian's wife, Calatoria Themis, Spendusa's sister Cynthia, and that woman who sneered at him on his way to the Baths aren't particularly enamoured of him. Venus seems to be fond of him, though. Which explains a lot, if you find Venus an explanation.

A General Sorry for lagging in answering e-mails the past few days. Meetings and work stuff did me in this week, plus I was fussing with comics a lot more than usual. Now that this installment is, uhm, 90% finished, I will take a few moments for de-frazzling then catch up on e-mails and phone calls (as if anyone can ever reach me by telephone. pfft).

Poor Mus, it's so hard to discover your loved-one cannot reciprocate. This is gonna make their relationship a bit unstable for a bit. Sometimes life isn't fair. DRW.

I don't know about you, but I believe I've had about all the character-building experiences I can stand. DRW.

As badly as my heart is breaking for Mus, I'm grateful that Felix only told him, "Grow up," instead of, "Get away, you're disgusting." He treats Mus as immature, not as a pervert.

Small, cold comfort, true. But I'm reaching for any balm I can find, right now.

Perhaps Felix could have managed to be kinder if they hadn't been so close to a public thoroughfare. FreakedOut!Felix may calm down soon into PracticalLet'sFixThisProblem!Felix, because that's just what Mus needs....

Dunno... I can usually get you on the phone. But then I know all the bat numbers.

GREAT comic today. It was bound to happen. I figured Mus would end up nekkid in Felix's bed waiting for him only to be thrown out. I told you that.

He's so sweet and sincere. I do feel bad for him.

Maybe in a few months I'll be able to get an actual for-real cell phone. Not that I want one, but I would occasionally like to be able to get phone messages and such newfangled excitement. And then I, too, will be able to shout the "I'm on the TRAIN! I'll be there in FIVE MINUTES! I'm ON the TRAIN!!" mantra into my phone on the subway. I'll have to get the cat a phone, too, so I have someone to yell at.

I'll just run out and pick up an iPhone or two... yup...

The nekkid-in-bed thing is scheduled to happen in part #879, but I think the volcano will get them all first--Bwahahaha. ::ahem::

As annoying as it might look, this is what txt msging is good for. And that takes 2 cell phones. Of course thumb-typing might be difficult for the cat.

Dewclaw typing, maybe?

The cat and I can learn this mysterious txt-msging thing together.

Imagining: "Ur late. Brng tuna NOW!"

That would be better than her morning ritual wailing:

5:15am "Come see if there's food in my dish!"
5:30am "Come see if there's food in my dish!"
5:45am "Come see if there's food in my dish!"
6:00am "Come see if there's food in my dish!"
6:15am "Come see if there's food in my dish!"
repeat until human gets out of bed, followed by:
"Oh, yeah, there *is* food in my dish, thanks for checking."

The cost of a cell phone would be worth it to break her of her morning routine, I tell you. She could spend the early morning meowing with her out-of-state friends or sending dirty txt msgs to birds or something.

...except for being, uhm, anachronistic, probably.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if the Romans used that expression the same way we do. I should go dig out my "Latin Vulgarities" book. (A purely scholarly text. With a subtle, neon orange cover.)

The "A Latin Sexual Vocabulary?" I love that book!

From: [identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com
That's the one! I've been referring to it as "Vulgar Latin" for so long, I'd forgotten the name of it.

Oh, deja vu! I feel like I've mentioned the Vulgar Latin book before in lj comments... Probably I have, knowing me :D

From: [identity profile] prettydragoon.livejournal.com
But wouldn't this still be Classical Latin at this time? I thought Vulgar Latin came later. Like, around about the closing time of tabernae.

Yo, (apparently random) shout out to [livejournal.com profile] la_colere. Of course, I should apologise for offering no boobies lately, as there was no place to put them. Maybe in a few more installments someone will get drunk at the funeral feast and dance on a table in a loosely belted chiton and oblige.

Never mind me. I am so unhip.

Ooooooohwow...

I was NOT expecting that! Here I thought mus had a serious Father-Figure thing for Felix!

And Felix gives him some tough love...emphasize the tough. Although he's right, and Mus needs this as a start to maturing.

Mus says, with a father like his, one is more than enough.

Felix will have to settle for being the tough-love big-brother figure.

Yeah, I'd just been trying to decide (after http://meritahut.livejournal.com/180116.html) if Mus' constant body contact (nearly all frames they've been in together) was fraternal or romantic. What a mess. Poor poor Mus. The soft focus in panel 2, though not intended, works great. You can hear the romantic music grind to a halt as the needle rips across the vinyl in panel 3.

I like how Felix, Mus, and Menander have become the dynamic trio. Does that make Menander Alfred to Felix's Batman (Mus being Robin, of course).

From: [identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com
I must put "needle ripping across vinyl" on my list of "sounds you never hear anymore," along with the scratch of the needle against the paper label in the center of the album then the thump of the next album falling into place, the clickclickclick of a rotary phone, and the ding of a typewriter. Oh, and the endangered telephone busy signal. I think I'll make a mix tape.

Maybe Mus will find his way back to fraternal from romantic. Can't break up the dynamic trio, now that they have an Alfred. All they need is a Batgirl in some nice high-heeled fighting boots.

From: [identity profile] ndgmtlcd.livejournal.com
Batgirl in high heeled boots? As much as I liked Yvonne Craig I'd prefer a Scythian girl in flat heeled caliga masquerading as a young (male) Scythian archer. Think of the endless Shakespearean quiproquos there!

OK, maybe she could be a redhead and working in a bibliotheca by day, if you really want to hang on to bits of the batgirl mythos.

Regarding the mix tape...

Remember when there were just two ring tones in the world? Ma Bell from America and then the English/European funny-assed rings.

Sometimes that boundary between best friends and otherwise seems so tenuous -- other times it comes crashing down into a ginormous canyon. Is there a karioke bar in town so Mus can learn how to sing I Will Survive?
