Unfortunately, the fates had it in for her from the start, and I am just a humble soldier in history's campaign.... or some such metaphor. Poor Vitalis.
I knew this was coming, based on my Googling of that legal case, but I guess I was in denial. I am shocked at how sudden it was. One day she's an incredibly vital (ha) character and then next she's gone. So sad. You managed to get us all attached to her.
Menander may be trained to be nothing but a pretty-boy, but he's brave, strong, and probably has a history of having to defend himself with the closest household object--kitchen utensils, frying pan, curling iron.... Marauders beware.
Is it just TOO unfeeling of me to mention that I love the diagonal lines you created in one tall vertical panel that spans both rows? It's beautiful the way this eyeline starts with Felix's and Vitalis's profiles, swoops up the stairway railing and Menander's arm, and finishes up with the thought balloon tail and Felix's shoulder in the final top row panel.
Pushes the action forward, and all. Gives the whole strip for today a feeling of grand tragedy, as well it should.
