you pay extra for the fancy hairI guess this should get a warning for "sleazy businessmen." Anyway... I'm rushed, the pens are all either leaking or drying up, I only got half of this done, and I am so ill I can barely sit upright.

Second row added. Go me.

This reminds me of when I used to watch old Lucy reruns as a child, and whenever Lucy would make a really bad decision, I would run out of the room so I wouldn't have to see what happened next, 'cause I knew it wasn't going to be good!

I think that's what Mus's servant in the last panel is planning to do.

Me, I just cover my ears and use the "Lalalala I can't hear you" method.

I dunno, perhaps Mus' father will be grateful he has a new lust interest.

But I don't think so. I think Mus is gonna get it! He'll have to go live at that bakery for like... FOREVER!

Love your stuff darling! You've got an outstanding story going!

Money can't buy you love. Unless it has a reasonable bride price/dowry (depending on your cultural traditions). Acutally, I suppose money can buy you love under any circumstances. And here I am, going into Valentine's Day with a negative bank account balance. Now what am I supposed to do?

I'm sure Papa Mus has a few nice girls picked out for his son, from respectable families, with wide hips.

Oh yeah... is this Menander the same as you have in that "other place?" He looks similar. Especially the colored one.

Yes, one is definitely modelled on the other; though, with the b&w ink and small size, faces aren't as detailed as with pencil, colour, yadda yadda. Also, clothing. I mean different clothing. Yes I do. I'll shut up now.

Okay then. Is Mus' name Alexander? He looks older, but I'd say there is a resemblence and he's wearing the same lucky piece...

Mus's sister calls him by name here (http://spqrblues.comicgenesis.com/d/20070116.html). He also has a "first" name. And a family, "son of" designation. Who knows, he might get adopted by a friend with a solid Italian background and in need of an heir, and pick up an Roman tribe name. But I prefer "Mus," myself. For one thing, it fits in the speech bubbles better.

Sometimes Mus doesn't quite come out the way I want when I draw him, but I notice that even if I get the face precisely the way I want it, he looks completely different depending on what his hair is doing that day :D

Hey, if this character sticks around, I could use one of those other illustrations for an icon:

But, maybe he won't be around long ::cue mysterious music::

I like the fact that being a natural redhead adds to his value. :-)

And lookit little Mus driving a hard... bargain! Great character touch to make him such a sharp little conniver, behind that adorable-innocent-hero-worshipper we usually see around Felix.

Well, he was raised to be a businessman, and unlike Felix didn't run away from home in the middle of his apprenticeship. (He left the running-away for later....) I find the Roman "middle class"--people like Stephanus, Vitalis, Mus's family--much more interesting than all those imperial hooligans :)

Redheads, yes, very valuable. It's hard to get a convincing permanent red hair dye, half the time you end up bald, and the going rate for wigs form Germany is really high....

Cool, a second idea for a pin to promote the comic:

ANCIENT ROME: I could have been a high-priced whore!

Fans can wear it with pride....
