deep thoughtsThis might not precisely match the topic of this week's Strip Fight—"A Riddle"—but it's something that happened a few days ago that I've been puzzling about. Because apparently I puzzle easily.

Check out the other entries, cast your votes!

Here is the same strip, in colour for no particular reason other than I was taking a break from the big freelance project...

I liked your strip. I went over the Strip fight and voted. A few of them weren't bad, and a couple were just bad (In my opinion).

I do like the color version of the art. Maybe next time you can get a color version done before you submit it? I think you'd do better in the voting. (I love black and white, but I know there are a lot of color snobs out there... I'm just saying!)

Wish you know who a happy b-day for me. She might not appreciate it, but it'll help raise my esteem in her eyes a bit? Mm? Heh.

Kiss kiss.

Yeah, I debated asking to replace the b&w one with the colour one. But I like b&w so much, with maybe a dash of red. I've gotten very used to it over the years--I loved my crow quill and bottle of india ink when I was a kid. But I still have an endless "maybe more people would read the comic if I broke down and did it in colour" debate going on in my head. Maybe it I could make it look very Art Nouveau and jewel-tone. But then that might be too flat for the modern taste in comeeks. And so on and on the debate twirls :P

Hey, do you think something like that, a colour comic in that format, could be printed, on, say, 11x14 or 11x17 paper, using something richer and nicer than an inkjet, then cut out in strips, folded up, for little bitty comics? That's do-able, yes? Do you have that technology??

I say we try it on the inkjet (my really good one, it's a damned nice piece of equipment) and if that doesn't meet your satisfaction we can have the color laser printed somewhere for probably around a buck a page. We'd have them going 3 up on a page I would imagine, but I'm not exactly sure since I dont' know the actual original size of the comic.

More business work when you get in town. Kissies.

The return of the red boots!

It was supposed to be snowy boot-wearing weather today, but the sky is pure clear blue. Of course, I will wear the boots anyway.

Yes, hooray for red boots! Which is a big reason I like the otherwise black and white. But I do like your colors in the other version too. I'm so indecisive.

And as the resident ornithologist, I can only say yes, birds doing something birds do. But that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with compassionate siding with the underdog, er bird. Natural selection is going to take care of things eventually, so it isn't like your short-term moral act (or failure to act) would have any long-term consequences. Hmm, my neo-Darwinist philosophy rather clashes with my bleeding-heart liberal tendencies. More indecisiveness!

Heh. If I'd remembered to e-mail you and ask about bird behaviour, I guess wouldn't have come up with a comic :)

On another topic -- las night I had a long complicated dream about Bob P showing up at a little boutique bookstore, where apparently I worked, at a mall, with parents. What do you think it means? Where did it come from? Is it some sort of spooky precognition? Am I about to go work at a mall out of desperation, in a store where they sell only books on astrophysics and planetary geology? Is a meteorite about to hit the Earth? Maybe space aliens are imminent?

The selective use of colour is pretty damned powerful, IMHO. Even your coloured version isn't completely full-colour. But I like the first one.

Now we know where Klio gets the inspiration for her goddess -- it's the bad bird kicking red boots!

Guh. I went to Strip Fight ... You certainly out-class the competition.

Strip Fight is a culture all its own :)

Of course, on New Year's Eve I drew talking boobs.

You know, sometimes I draw these teeny tiny things and look back at them later and wonder, "How exactly did I do that?" and then "Why exactly did I do that?" :)

Well, there's a big difference between "tasteless" and "tasteless, but amusing." :p

I liked your strip, especially since it's the kind of thought process I have ALL THE TIME.

Agreed. This is why we love it when she enters.

I absolutely love this -- in fact, I like the b/w version best. :-) Love the red boots -- very Spielbergian. :-D

You are very very talented, my friend.
