You say yes, I say noYesterday I helped [livejournal.com profile] furboajerboa move from her cool bachelorette Mary Richards garden apartment to a funky artsy tartsy loft space. Of course I pulled a massive back muscle carrying the very last piece of furniture with super-strong [livejournal.com profile] sketchartists. And yet, I struggled on and drew a comic! Just for you! And you!

Next time, maybe we could hire some exploited slave labour.

Eh? Are they moving into a funky artsy tartsy loft space too?

So what's with little sister's fascination with Felix now? Hmmm?

So what's with little sister's fascination with Felix now?

It's a very small town. And they don't have cable.

And they collect wee wee to bleach clothing. And the Emperor Vespasian taxes wee wee.

I need sleep, and yet I keep posting.

Oh, and, yes, in Chapter I, Vitalis paid off her former master so Iusta can move in with her in a newly frescoed house.

Vitalis, Iusta, and Felix

So, Iusta is going to live with her birth-mother now? But wasn't she *just* going to temple with her "stepmother" who was all concerned about her marriage prospects? And then because Felix is working for Vitalis he's going to move too? I'm confused.

Oh good - it's not just me.

I guess it's been too long since I read Chapter I. With everything I've got going on, any information that my brain doesn't classify as extremely vital to my survival (or college degree) tends to leak out my ears.

[livejournal.com profile] kyleen66 and I were just discussing the stepmother/marriage prospects earlier today. Given that the StepMonster hasn't produced an heir, doesn't it follow that if Iusta marries, her husband would inherit her father's fortune? If she never marries, some male relative of the StepMonster becomes the lucky guy, right? So why would she be encouraging a good marriage for Iusta, instead of plotting to keep her a spinster and/or the victim of a terrible accident?

True--Calatoria Stepmom is soon going to suggest Iusta marry one of the Calatorius family. But Iusta marrying someone hugely wealthy and astoundingly well connected would be a rising tide that raises all boats. Vitalis just fears that Iusta, as Petronius' only heir, might meet with some sort of accident at the hands of Calatoria Stepmom.

I'll return to the discussion in the Petronius household to make all this clearer. In fact, whenever I print Chapter 3, I'd probably best put any such clarifications right after Iusta returns home from temple.

But I will work on all this when I'm not quite so thoroughly sleepy :)

Here is the comic from Chapter I:

Erm... this is what I need to get into the comic itself: Stepdaughter marrying Cousin Earl keeps the money in the family. Stepdaughter wants to marry Donald Trump? Step aside, Counsin Earl; Donald Trump has gold-plated toilet seats. Stepdaughter out of the way entirely? Does Calatoria have the stomach to do that to a pretty young thing?

And Vitalis just wants Felix because, who's going to mess with your daughter when you have an ex-legionary thug watching over her?

Awww... sleeping Felix is so cute!

I had forgotten that Vitalis had "bought" off Iusta's father. I really need to go back and reread and see what else (and other possible clues) may have slipped my mind. Hrm.

I had to laugh about the comment, "You can have a look at the rooms for lodgers. I think you'll like them."

Does poor Felix know he's moving? He ought to get a break on his rent that way.
