This one is actually posted out of sequence, but it was quick to ink, and I wanted to give folks something to read... And, since letters can take a little while to travel across the Empire, Mus and his little sister may end up getting their news from Felix out of sequence, too.
Awfully diplomatic of Mus not to mention this at the beginning of SPQR Blues I, which takes place after this, of course. (grin) Well, we've been schnookered!
Well, there may be intervening events giving Mus a good reason not to bring it up. The kids probably know, enlisted men can't really marry, so what Felix means by "wife" is, "this woman I'm tented up with on a pretty much permanent basis, so welcome her to the family" or, when they think about it, they might decide he could even mean, "this woman who makes my bed, if-you-know-what-I-mean, and 'wife' is just what we soldiers call it, nudge nudge."
Surely by the time of chapter I she's... just fine... surely...
