This guy is kinda sketchyWar is not pretty. And neither is the horse in this comic. But I'm working on it.

Unfortunate Son

Actual civilian casualties probably mounted to the tens of thousands and beyond. Whatever the excesses of the Romans war machine, evidence indicates Titus Jr. did not want such destruction and bloodshed. For one thing, pillage and slaughter are not a practical way to win over the populace either in Judaea or elsewhere, and not a noble way to honour (his) gods. But the young general apparently lost control of legions worn down by years of frustrating war and occupation in the Middle East and years of constant attrition by the opposition.

Horsies are difficult.

But I LIKE the horsie! I even like the little booties you put on him!

You can draw German Shepherd Dogs next. ::nod nod:: I've got new piccy's of Shadow-chan for you to use as a model and everything.

He's easy. He looks like a wolf. Really. Honest. ::giggle::

What horse wouldn't want a fine pair of army-issue caligae? Everybody else gets fancy boots, after all.

Hmmm, I used to have an article on recreating the Roman cavalry saddle. It had no stirrups, but was equipped with two projections, almost like saddle-horns (angled out at 45 degree angle) that helped the warrior keep in the saddle when the going got exciting. I'll see if I can find some info on that... might be helpful later. One thing I do know is that Roman saddle horses are small by modern standards, more like large ponies. The horse in your drawing looked about the right size for a serious military horse... though that depends on how big the rider is. DRW.
