spqrblues: (arch scribe)
Today is Edgar Allan Poe's 200th birthday.

Usually I do something interesting (by which I mean "weird") to celebrate Poe, but it looks like today I will be shovelling snow and going to work, since I didn't ask for any time off for Poe-related activities. (And last night I felt blah, so no comic update until late tonight either.) I'll carry my Complete Poe to read on the train so I look erudite.

Speaking of which, I'm running late, so I'd better start shovelling my way out....

Update: I think this quote is my favourite from today's reading, though the one about the moustaches is a close second: "I hurried to him and found that he had received what might be termed a serious injury. The truth is, he had been deprived of his head, which after a close search I could not find anywhere. So I determined to take him home and send for the homeopathists. He did not long survive his terrible loss. ... So in the end he grew worse, and at length died."

I think Poe would have loved those Vincent Price/Roger Corman movies.
