SPQR Blues Chapter 4 part XXVIII, row 5

elisaThis is the last of the set of drawings pencilled while I was under attack by a crazed mob of pollen! Or something. In any case, I expect further attacks as the spring progresses.

Very nice pitcher. Why do I always dream of borrowing a time machine and looting "pristine" Roman cities when I read your comic?

[identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I have this fantasy of time-travelling, hiring a native guide, and going down to the marketplace to buy sacks of trinkets and household furnishings. A few nice things, too.

Well, there's half a sort-of-pristine Roman city just waiting for us to loot under people's homes in modern Herculaneum. I hear that parts of the old city on top of the old old city are becoming unstable, which is sad news for the inhabitants, but good news for pillagers.

Uh oh, now I've made myself maudlin and wishing I could drop everything and join that conservation project in Herculaneum ::sniffle:: Every now and then I think, why not just live off my savings in Herculaneum for a couple of months and visit every nook and cranny? Then I remember that I'd lose my job if I did that. If only I had a time machine... or maybe a teleporter...

I like how Elisa looks a lot like Mus on these pics. That's not easy to achieve with a light and reduced drawing style such as yours. Kudos!

Thanks. I think I've finally figured out that family's faces :)

She looks all swoony in that last panel! After all, swooning into Felix's arms would be the romantic thing to do after being rescued . . .

[identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Justa would definitely try the full-force, head-on swooning tactic. Come to think of it, Mus probably would, too. Elisa isn't quite the type, though she did break with propriety to get out of the house...

Hand me another?

Hoooraaay! I knew she'd be ok!

And good girl for grabbing that vase I just suggested ;D

she looks so smitten in the last panel! :D

love the expressions, as always. The big guy's scowl is great! I don't think he liked those guys much, anyway ;D

Definitely some sort of cross-dimensional time-travelling thing going on there, since obviously she heard your advice!

sweeeeeet

I suppose I have it in with Mercury and The Fates this time around ;D

You know, you have a nice, exciting rescue with terrific expressions on all involved and what's my reaction? Back hair! Hee hee hee!

These important little details are why I need that fine line pen :)

I love the little touches you put in, like the vase hanging outside of the panel. Also, buy having Felix's companion be able to name the street trash puts me of a mind of a "small" town or city sort of place.

It's Mayberry SPQR :)

Also, I watch too many late-night '60s teevee reruns. ::whistles::

She looks so tall in that last panel, more like a woman than the young girl she still is, right?

Then again, I've probably lost all track of time at this point.

And yes, the facial expressions are positively yummy. How you manage to convey so much with just a few little lines is simply beyond my comprehension.

[identity profile] meritahut.livejournal.com 2008-04-06 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Too tall? Hmm... she's stretching up to look him in the face, and he's bending down a little to get closer to her eye level. There! Solved! :D

Hey, I seldom understand anything I do, myself....

She really does have a family resemblance to Mus! I love the duck and weave she does in panel 3 (while still holding on to the pitcher). And "This one's done - toss me yours" is a great line. And FELIX'S HAIR! All those little tiny lines - no wonder she's swoony. :D
