As a big believer in hats myself, may I say (a) your cartoon self looks really cute in that hat and (b) it's nice to see your cartoon self smile -- and have something to smile about. (grin)
I just submitted my first story with my British SF characters to a market, and have had to beat the U.S. spellchecker in Microsoft Word into submission...
I blame it on learning to spell from my grandmother's hymnbook and other old tomes. I had a teacher in high school who raged at my spellings until he brought me into standard Americanized compliance. I have rebelled ever since by adding alternative spellings to every spellchecker I encounter. I'm a wild thing.
Good luck with the story submission! I hope the turnaround time for a response is quick, so you don't have too much agony of anticipation. And, of course, I hope you get an acceptance and a gigantic payment, followed by nominations and notoreity and dinner at an awards banquet seated at Harlan Ellison's table. Because once you survive that, you'll be ready for anything.
(hmm... I only have one Britishy icon, I'll use that.)
Would be happy to share an awards table with Harlan -- just have to get more things published before they can get nominated, of course. Wasn't sure if my last post was clear -- it's not my first submission, actually it's my 106th, but my first with these British SF characters. This is for the ChiZine contest -- they promise results by July 31st, so that's pretty decent.
So glad you seem to be in a happier mood -- a good hat can do that. Now get thee back to the Romans! (grin)
Hurrah for your own personal independence day - I think you actually deserve a full independence week, and it looks like you & the floppy hat are of the same mellow mind. Yay. But, but, she says....now I don't know where to email you anymore!!
I wants a floppy hat. R said 'no'. I said 'how am I supposed to time travel to the 70s while listening to Cream under the influence of MDMA without a floppy hat?!'. R still said 'no'. Peh.
You need a floppy hat! I cannot recommend floppy hats enough. I feel so groovy in my floppy hat, next thing you know I'll be painting flowers on my face, wearing lovebeads, and foregoing a bra. Maybe not that last bit. Gravity is not our friend.
Word, girlfriend. I learned my lesson a year ago. It was, like, 15 years in the making (or something). Thank Christ for socially acceptable, superficial surgeries!

Is there some special significance to the moa skeleton, or is it simply random coolness?

Rather, working as well as they ever did. Which, in some cases, means "sort of." :)
