SPQR Blues part XCIX: row 2

Fluff in Brooklyn's (and First Second's)
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Oh, yeah, and here's a comic. A bit rushed, and I'm a bit sleepy and more than a little incoherent. I hope when I wake up in the morning I don't discover that I've written it all upsidedown in Aramaic and Tengwar.

Wonder how many flies died before the doc showed up.
And this is just strange:

The apologist biography of Domitian (http://bmcr.brynmawr.edu/1992/03.06.10.html) I recently read is full of useful minutiae (though the author finds people of patrician status much more interesting than mere equestrians, plebeians, and freedman civil servants, and women are kind of sort of just appendages whose names can be used to determine relationships amongst the menfolk). And it's good to have a new perspective on maligned historical figuresI'm an apologist for one such figure myself. But I can almost hear the creaking as the biographer twists himself to paint Domitian as a rational, stable fellow who just happened to undermine himself entirely and execute a bunch of people on flimsy reasons. (Y'know, It's not necessarily a sign of his mercy and kindness that some people were only exiled--that being, like, Roman law and all--and the author glosses over people who were exiled, allowed to return, and later executed for something else. Executions for atheism or irreverence are treated as a sort of unfortunate necessity. The author uneasily paints Domitian's increasing self-isolation as a personality quirk of a thoughtful sort of guy. But, I'll stop picking at the book now. There's lots of good research and information, just bring your salt shaker.)
I'm perfectly willing to believe Domitian could turn into a fairly capable administrator, in spite of the massive doubts his own family had about him, but still not be someone I'd have wanted to live in the same century with. We have a modern example or two of that sort of thing.

Which Greek God Are You?
You are an Apollo! You like creating music and poetry. You're in charge of keeping the sun in the sky. You like to convince people that you can tell the future. You have a bad habit of getting crushes on people and forcing them to turn themselves into foliage just to get away from you. Your son invented medicine, but then had to be put down because he tried to bring people back to life -- oops. You once beat this guy in a music contest and removed his skin as punishment for challenging you in the first place. Nice. So anyway -- get out there, shake that golden hair, and strike up some tunes!

Except if sometimes you get "You are a warped Jesus constructed to serve specific modern political interests" or "You are the plastic Jesus sitting on the dashboard of my car."
Frankly, I think this quiz should happen, yup. ::semi-volunteers to do it while hoping someone else will::

(a) going to inherit the kingdom
(b) actually the 'poor in spirit'
(c) going to be fed while the rich get sent away hungry
(b) not praying hard enough! Otherwise they would be rich!
See, this is how I get in trouble.
You should do it! Iphis would love it. I'll help if I can, although I know nothing about making quizzes.
