Gobble, gobble

Domitian is definitely the runner-up candidate for the throneAnd now a message from your imperial overlords...

There is no Latin word for 'gobble gobble'

Prince Domitian reads the Imperial turkey pardon. And wishes everyone in the U.S. a Happy Thanksgiving. Or would if, you know, there were a Thanksgiving or any turkeys in ancient Rome.

(Check the entry previous to this for today's comic :) )

I am envisioning a dozen Praetorians, all running around in the background trying to collect enough birds for Domitian's holiday feast, while the prince reads the pardon. I also envision the turkeys escaping to freedom, except for, of course, there's that age-old problem that turkeys can't fly....

oh, but turkeys CAN fly! Just not for a great distance, wings are made for zippy flight and snap-turns to escape predators, but otherwise stay on the ground :D

might depend on the species of turkey?

but I think you're right about Domitian...pardon one turkey but feast on a dozen :P

I suppose if it was Caligula the poor turkey would be dressed up in some crazy costume and made a senator :P

I love how each crazy Roman emperor has his own particular, unique brand of the crazy.

And for that one, I think you need to be taken on a snipe hunt.

It's ye olde WKRP In Cincinnati joke: "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iafzqOCaxA4) I thought that old roasted chestnut had been dragged out enough over the past week or so that everyone would have heard it (or re-heard it, if old enough or a fan of late-night reruns) by now....

ETA: This clip is long enough to include the quote itself (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2ifyi8-lxo&feature=related), at around 4:09 :P
